Admission Categories for International Students

The application for degree-seeking international students is categorized into International Students, Overseas Chinese Students, Hong Kong & Macau Students, and Mainland Chinese Students.

Each category follows different regulations, application processes, and tuition fees. Please ensure that you meet the eligibility requirements and apply through the appropriate channel.


Foreign Student Admission Regulations

According to the Regulations Regarding International Students Undertaking Studies in Taiwan, foreign students must meet one of the following criteria
Any violations will result in disqualification from admission, expulsion, or revocation of graduation qualifications, and no academic certificates will be issued.

(1) Holding a Foreign Nationality and Never Holding ROC Nationality

• Must not have studied in Taiwan as an overseas Chinese student.

• Must not have been assigned for admission under the Regulations Regarding Study and Counseling Assistance for Overseas Chinese Students in Taiwan in the academic year of application.

(2) Holding a Foreign Nationality and Meeting One of the Following Conditions

• If the applicant also holds ROC nationality, they must have never registered household in Taiwan and must have continuously resided overseas for at least six years prior to application (Note 1).

• If the applicant previously held ROC nationality but has renounced it, they must have completed at least eight years since the renunciation was approved by the Ministry of the Interior.

(3) Holding a Foreign Nationality and Permanent Residency in Hong Kong or Macau

• Must not have a household registration in Taiwan.

• Must have continuously resided in Hong Kong, Macau, or overseas for at least six years prior to application.

(4) Former Mainland Chinese Citizens Who Have Acquired Foreign Nationality

• Must not have a household registration in Taiwan.

• Must have continuously resided overseas for at least six years prior to application.

Note 1: Definition of Overseas and Continuous Residency

• Overseas refers to any country or region excluding Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau.

• Continuous residency means that in each calendar year, the applicant has not stayed in Taiwan for more than 120 days.

• The following situations are exceptions to the 120-day rule if documented proof is provided:

 1. Enrollment in training programs recognized by the Overseas Community Affairs Council or the Ministry of Education.

 2. Enrollment in Chinese language centers of accredited universities in Taiwan (for less than two years).

 3. Participation in exchange programs in Taiwan (for less than two years).

 4. Internship in Taiwan approved by central competent authorities (for less than two years).

Note 2: ROC Nationality Law Article 2 According to the Nationality Act of the Republic of China (ROC), individuals acquire ROC nationality if either parent was an ROC national at the time of their birth.


Overseas Chinese Student Admission Regulations

The qualifications of overseas Chinese students are determined by the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC).
Applicants must comply with the Regulations Regarding Study and Counseling Assistance for Overseas Chinese Students in Taiwan.
Any violations will lead to disqualification, expulsion, or revocation of graduation qualifications, with no academic certificates issued.

Definition of Overseas Chinese Students

Students of Chinese descent who were born and have continuously resided overseas or have resided overseas for at least six consecutive years (as per Note 1), and hold a permanent or long-term residence permit in their country of residence.

Hong Kong & Macau Student Admission Regulations

Applicants must comply with the latest Regulations for Hong Kong and Macau Residents Studying in Taiwan (Only Chinese version) set by the Ministry of Education.
Any violations will result in disqualification, expulsion, or revocation of graduation qualifications, with no academic certificates issued.

Definition of Hong Kong & Macau Students

• Residents of Hong Kong or Macau who hold permanent residency in these regions.

• Must have continuously resided overseas for at least six years prior to application.

Mainland Chinese Student Admission Regulations
Mainland Chinese Student Qualification

• Applicants must be registered residents of Beijing, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangdong, Hubei, or Liaoning.

• All Mainland Chinese students must apply through the University Entrance Committee for Mainland Chinese Students.
