Q1:If a student status is disqualified, he/she has to leave Taiwan within 10 days as regulation.

A1:Once the application procedure of suspension, termination, transfer or graduation from Registry Division is completed, the student status will be disqualified. Under the regulation from National Immigration Agency, student has to leave Taiwan within 10 days.


Q2:What is the application eligibility for NKUST scholarship?

A2:

1.New students applying for admission in accordance with the Studying Guidelines of International Student and international students currently studying at NKUST (hereinafter as Current Students) are eligible.

2.The following international students with official student registrations are not qualified for scholarships specified in this Guidelines:

(1)Overseas Chinese students, students with People’s Republic China nationality, Dual Degree students, and short-term exchange students

(2)Students with delayed graduation

(3)International students of special programs


Q3:Does tuition waiver of NKUST scholarship include only tuition fees?

A3:

1.Undergraduate Student:Tuition and credit fee waiver (excluding housing, books and insurance fees)

(1)Qualifications will be evaluated when New Students apply for admission. Tuition fee will be waived for students who are accepted at that academic year.

(2)Current Undergraduate Students who wish to apply for the waiver should have taken at least 6 credits in the previous semester with an average score of 75 or above.

2.Master Student:Tuition fee waiver (excluding housing, books and insurance fees)

(1)Qualifications will be evaluated when New Students apply for admission. Tuition and credit fee will be waived for students who are accepted at that academic year.

(2)Current Master Students who wish to apply for the waiver should have taken at least 3 credits in the previous semester with an average score of 82 or above.

3.Ph.D. Student:Tuition fee waiver

(1)Qualifications will be evaluated when New Students apply for admission. Tuition and credit fee will be waived for students who are accepted at that academic year.

(2)Students applying for the 2nd year scholarship should have an average academic score of 82 or above from the previous semester. Students applying for the 3rd year and 4th year scholarship have to submit a paper published in an international journal.


Q4:What is the re-issuance eligibility of NKUST scholarship?

A4:Except for the Scholarship for New Students, the scholarship specified in this Guidelines is a semester scholarship that is paid monthly. Enrolled students have to resubmit applications every semester based on their eligibility criteria before the given deadline. The maximum number of semesters for a student to receive scholarships is as following: eight semesters for undergraduate students, four semesters for graduate students, eight semesters for PhD candidates. Students who have already received the maximum amount based on the above criteria are not eligible to apply for NKUST scholarships.

Q6:What facilities are available in dorm?

A6:New international students can apply for dormitory. The dorm is semi-furnished including table, chair, bed and shelf with internet and electrical connection. A common TV hall is located at the center of the dorm buildings. A refrigerator, washing machine and dryer are provided for each dorm building.


Q7:Is there any shuttle bus service?

A7:We provide shuttle bus back and forth between Yanchao and Jiangong Campus. For Nanzih and First Campus, there are MRT stations and bus routes nearby.


Q8:Are international students allowed not to get the health insurance in Taiwan?

A8:It is compulsory for anyone who plans to stay in Taiwan for more than six months to apply and pay for the health insurance. The premium is NTD$ 749/month.


Q9:Can I get some basic information about NKUST?

Q11:How to apply for residential certificate?

A11:For all international students, it is compulsory to apply for the alien resident certificate (ARC). Once you have ARC you will be permitted for multiple entries in Taiwan (up to the end of expiry of ARC). The documents you may need to apply for ARC:

Q12:How can I improve my Chinese language skills?

A12:NKUST offers short term Chinese learning course for all international students on each campus every semester.


Q13:Can I apply for TA/RA jobs?

A13:Yes, you can apply for TA/RA jobs depending on availability of jobs during your study here.


Q14:Are there any on-campus jobs for international students?

A14:Yes, there are part-time jobs on campus. However, you need to apply for work permit and have studied at least one semester in order to work on-campus.


Q15:When do the International students know whether they have received the scholarship?

A15:Office of International Affairs will inform you of NKUST scholarship. As for the Taiwan Scholarship, applicants have to give interview in your country at Taiwan Embassy. The Taiwan Scholarship committee will evaluate your application.


Q16:Is the language of teaching English, or I need to learn Chinese language?

A16:In addition to academic programs taught in Chinese, NKUST offers International Programs taught in English. For more information, please see Program Information.

Q18:When can I expect to find out whether I have been admitted?

A18:The admission result will be announced on NKUST Office of International Affairs website. Please check our website regularly. Office of International Affairs will also send email to applicants who are admitted. You can also email to the admission email address to check your status.


Q19:What English proficiency test is required for admission to NKUST scholarship?

A19:Students from non-English speaking countries who have obtained an IELTS overall band of 5.5 or above or an equivalent level in other English language proficiency tests.


Q20:What score of English or Chinese proficiency test is required for admission to NKUST scholarship?

A20:

1.Undergraduate Student:

(A)A certificate or a score of Band B or above in the Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language (TOCFL)

(B)A transcript of the Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM) in which the Chinese subject is Grade C or above

(C)A transcript of the Unified Examination Certificate of Malaysia (UEC) in which the Chinese subject is Grade C or above

2.Master Student:

(A)A certificate or a score of Band B or above in the Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language (TOCEL)

(B)Students from non-English speaking countries who have obtained an IELTS overall band of 5.5 or above or an equivalent level in other English language proficiency tests


Q21:Will I receive the stipend of NKUST scholarship in the beginning of the semester?

A21:Stipend is granted for the first semester from September to February and the second semester from March to August. The issued month may be differed based on student’s status. The grant is deposited directly into the recipient’s local bank or postal account by the Office of International Affairs on a monthly basis (stipend scholarship recipients receive NTD $3,000-$12,000 stipend monthly) for the awarded semester. OIA keep the right to revise this policy.
